Realising the need for such awareness, Bukit Kiara Properties (BKP) engaged a well-known, fire-safety activist, Captain K. Bala from the MVFRA Fire & Rescue Academy to talk on the subject to the Jireh Charity Village (JVC) in Broga, Semenyih on March 17.

BKP Group Managing Director NK Tong said the need for a basic fire-safety programme for JCV was pressing because the home housed 94 residents (86 orphans and 8 old folks).

“We do not want fire to cause fatality or raze any home but prevention is better than cure and that was why our company’s caring attitude took us to JCV,” he said. As a compassionate corporate citizen, he said it was BKP’s wish that JCV’s residents would become more aware of the dangers of home fires, what to do when trapped in fire situations and how to escape.

After the talk, the orphans were treated with McDonald’s meal while JCV received four sets of first-aid kits and fire blankets from BKP.

The orphans said that the talk was exciting and the drills were something they had never done before. “I really enjoyed playing with the fire hose because I get to feel like I’m a real fire-fighter!” said one resident. Another JCV resident also said, “The best part of the entire day was the ride in a ‘real life’ fire engine”.

JCV Chairman Reverend Terrence Sinnadurai thanked BKP for organising the fire-safety talk and said it would go a long way to help the residents to practise their escape routes and combat such situations in the event of a fire. BKP’s latest project is the Verve Suites, is a fully-furnished and serviced- suite apartment in the high-end Mont’Kiara neighbourhood.

Continuing its tradition of offering niche and innovative products to complement the lifestyles of homebuyers, BKP through Verve Suites, introduced the unique sky lounge, named Vertigo Lounge. It spans 6,000 square feet and perches on the 35th floor of the penthouse of Block Viva. Verve Suites was 70% sold within four months without the aid of any advertisements. BKP’s maiden project was Aman Kiara, an exclusive gated and guarded precinct of 19 bungalows and 12 duplex condovillas. Launched in 2002, it was fully sold and completed 9 months ahead of schedule.

Hijauan Kiara was the second project, a luxurious spa-themed condominium development. Hijauan Kiara introduced exclusive features such as a layout with a maximum of 2 units on each floor, private lift lobbies, sunken baths and a spa island. More than 90% of the units are sold, with only the bumiputra units remaining. Hijauan Kiara is expected to be completed by end 2007. Both Aman Kiara and Hijauan Kiara are also located in Mont’Kiara.
