Kids from Angels Children Home spent a sunny morning on a seedling project when Bukit Kiara Properties’ (BKP) Marketing and Property Services Department initiated an educational charity visit to the Home recently.

It has been the two departments’ annual affair since 2011 to reach out to deserving homes and spread cheer to the less fortunate. This year, the team decided on a ‘Go Green’ theme with the objective of educating the younger generation on the importance of preserving our environment. This is also in line with the company’s Green Initiatives campaign which was launched last year.

Each kid was given an empty plastic bottle where they were asked to decorate it with simple drawings. The decorated bottles were later filled with saplings and the children were required to care and grow their plants respectively. The team also took the opportunity to share some knowledge on recycling with the children of Angels Home.

Jimmy, 9, was enjoying himself during the DIY (Do-It-Yourself) session of decorating a recycled plastic bottle together with BKP team members. “I enjoyed it a lot because I love drawing and I could draw whatever I want on the bottle. I will take good care of my plants and make sure they live a long time,” said the little boy.

Prior to the seedling project, BKP team ran an ice-breaker session and played games with the kids. Each BKP member was assigned a child from the Home as their little buddy for all the games and activities throughout the morning.

The team, on their own personal initiatives, managed to raise close to RM4,000 for the Home. The fund collected was used to purchase gifts specially selected for every child, as well as groceries and sundries for the home. The remaining funds were donated to the Home to help ease their overall expenses.

“It is heart warming to see the team continue to embrace the company’s core value of Caring. And even more powerful to see them take their own personal time & initiative to spend time with kids from Angels Home while spreading some ‘green’ knowledge to everyone here,” said BKP’s Group Managing Director, Datuk NK Tong.

“We are thankful to have BKP visiting us today. This provides the kids with the opportunity to socialise with others and build their confidence level,” said William, the caretaker of Angels Children Home.
