Dato’ Alan Tong Kok Mau, Group Chairman of Bukit Kiara Properties (BKP), received the prestigious “National Real Estate Leadership Award” from Malaysian Institute of Estate Agents (MIEA) during the recent MIEA’s 34th Annual Dinner and National Real Estate Awards Nite.

The award was presented to Dato’ Alan Tong in recognition of his contribution to the property industry, where he has spent more than five decades of his life building ideal neighbourhood and promoting the Malaysia property industry through his active involvement in FIABCI (International Real Estate Federation).

In his acceptance speech, Dato’ Alan Tong thanked MIEA for the tribute and dedicated the achievement to his team members for their support. He also stated that holding on to his principles and embracing the right values are some of the important ‘ingredients’ in guiding his journey in the property industry.

“It is important to have a set of conduct and values to guide our daily interactions with our customers, business partners and employees besides meeting their needs and expectations,” said Dato’ Alan Tong after received the award from the former Minister of International Trade and Industry, YB Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz.

“At BKP, we have four core values - Quality, Innovation, Caring and Integrity, to guide and help us to make the right decision.  We stress the importance of conducting ourselves and doing business with integrity as the most important attribute to embrace,” he added.

Dato’ Alan Tong also complimented MIEA for its continuous effort in improving the skills, knowledge and professionalism of its members. He urged all members to uphold the standards set out in MIEA’s Code of Ethics and Conduct, which will eventually benefit everyone including the customers.

An architectural graduate from the University of Sydney, Dato’ Alan Tong founded Sunrise Sdn Bhd in 1968. His accomplishment in transforming a rubber estate land near the fringe of Sri Hartamas into one of the country’s most premium residential addresses, known as Mont’Kiara today, have earned him the title ‘Condo King of Malaysia’.

He chartered the course for the company’s growth during the property slump of 1986 until it was listed on the Main Board of KLSE in 1996. It was in 1997 that he decided to sell his stake in the company just before the Asian Financial Crisis hit the country – a move that many acknowledged to be a testament of his foresight.

In 2005, Dato’ Alan Tong became the first and only Malaysian to ascend to the post of World President in FIABCI’s 56-year history. Last year, he was crowned “Property Man of the Year” during the FIABCI Malaysia Property Award Ceremony.
