It has always been a tradition to give away hampers and gifts during Chinese New Year. By now, many homes and offices are loaded with festive hampers received from their relatives and business suppliers. Bukit Kiara Properties (BKP) is no exception. However, instead of savouring the goodies from the hampers, the boutique developer in Kuala Lumpur decided to donate them to a charity home.

Led by BKP’s Group Managing Director, NK Tong, the company initiated an exercise to donate festive hampers received from business suppliers to charity homes six years ago. Since then, the company has donated hundreds of hampers to deserving homes as part of the company’s ‘Caring Hands’ charity initiative to spread cheer and joy to the less fortunate and at the same time to promote the value of integrity in the company.

This year, BKP brought cheers to 30 children from Rumah Charis when the company donated 13 hampers and an assortment of cookies to the home recently. In addition to the festive hampers, BKP also donated a branded washing machine when the company was informed of the home’s need.

NK shared that the inspiration of this exercise came from the company’s core values of Caring and Integrity. “Every festive season, our office was flooded with hampers and gifts from our suppliers.  In accordance with our code of ethics, our team members would declare these gifts to the management. A few years ago, one suggestion came about to donate them to charity homes. We thought it was a fantastic idea as it also allowed us to contribute back to the society,” NK said.

During the visit, the home came alive with children’s laughter when BKP staff organized a fun game session with them. The children were later treated to a sumptuous high tea together with BKP’s management team. “Over the years, BKP has organized lunch sessions with our senior citizens’ residents, brought our children for a movie and helped us to spruce up our home. It is very thoughtful of BKP for their constant follow-up with Rumah Charis. We look forward to having more companies like BKP who are always ready to reach out to homes in need,” said Suzanne Lee, the operations manager of Rumah Charis.
