DATO' ALAN TONG NAMED 'PROPERTY MAN OF THE YEAR 2010

BKP’s Group Chairman, Dato’ Alan Tong Kok Mau, was named Property Man of the Year 2010 during the FIABCI Malaysia Property Award Ceremony and Gala Dinner held at the Shangri-La Hotel on November 11, 2010.

Dato’ Alan Tong received the prestigious award from the Guest of Honour, His Majesty The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin. The prestigious Property Man of the Year Award is bestowed upon leaders of the property industry who have demonstrated outstanding and exceptional achievements in developing the Malaysia property industry.

Attended by more than 1,000 local and foreign industry leaders and professional, the annual Malaysia Property Award and Gala Dinner is the most prestigious event of the year. It has been hailed as the “Oscar” for the Malaysian real estate industry.

Having dedicated more than five decades in the international and local real estate development, Dato’ Alan Tong thanked his FIABCI colleagues, family members, business associates as well as his BKP employees for their support and dedication.

“Very few things in life are entirely the work of just one person – and this is no exception. It is through our joint efforts that created the achievements of BKP. The award tonight does not just honour me but also each and every individual in BKP. It is an affirmation of BKP’s belief that the impossible can be achieved as a team,” he said.

An architectural graduate from the University of Sydney, Dato’ Alan Tong formed a private property development company in 1968. His accomplishments with the latter have earned him the title ‘Condo King of Malaysia’ when he turned acres of rubber estate land near the fringe of Sri Hartamas into one of the country’s most exclusive and premium residential addresses back in 1990, now known as Mont’Kiara.

He chartered the course for the company’s growth during the property slump of 1986 until it was listed on the Main Board of KLSE in 1996. It was in 1997 that he decided to sell his stake in the company just before the Asian Financial Crisis hit the country – a move that many acknowledged to be a testament of his foresight.

In 2005, Dato’ Alan Tong has done the country proud by becoming the first and only Malaysian to ascend to the post of World President in FIABCI’s 56-year history.
